There’s no question that over the past year our love and appreciation for nature has grown. Many of us chose outdoor experiences in an effort to stay safe and distanced, and the trend continues this summer. Travellers and locals alike are looking to take advantage of the experiences Cowichan’s great outdoors has to offer, and where they lay their heads is no exception.

Whether a rugged trip into the woods is your idea of the perfect getaway, or nature-meets-luxury is more your speed, Cowichan has something to suit all tastes.

Adventurers will find campsites in all four corners of the region, all with something unique to offer. In the South, opportunities begin as soon as you cross the Malahat at Bamberton Provincial Park and Bamberton Campsite, where you can enjoy stunning views across the ocean inlet.

If travelling by boat, moor at Osborne Bay Resort on Cowichan’s east coast before settling in for the night (heads up – cabins are an option here too). Just inland, the Chemainus River Campground is situated over 23 acres and known for its plentiful wildlife.

If it’s lake life you’re after, take a trip to Cowichan Lake, and spend your days exploring the area’s trails or floating down the Cowichan River. This part of the region has a long list of campsites to offer, including Gordon Bay Provincial Park, Lakeview Park Campsite, Pine Point Recreation Site, Caycuse Campground and Nixon Creek Recreation Site.

For travellers seeking more structure and comfort, Cowichan has you covered. Overlook the pond and orchard in one of Merridale Cidery and Distillery’s bespoke yurts. Nearby on the shores of Shawnigan Lake, Camp Pringle offers off-grid cabin rentals. In the North of the region, Rondalyn Resort is an option ideal for those who are undecided, offering rustic campsites as well as cabins. Of course, you can also live the van life in Cowichan, with a fully equipped Westfalia rental from Base Camp Adventure Rentals

There are few places in the world where you can spend the afternoon floating on a pristine lake and then eat dinner ocean-side, just minutes away.

It’s time for a break, and Cowichan is waiting. Slow down. Savour life.
